Between February 21st and March 16th, Rush Wilson Limited is partnering with Allen Edmonds to collect new and gently worn shoes for Soles4Souls.
Soles4Souls was started by Wayne Elsey, a footwear industry executive, in Nashville, TN, in response to the Tsunami in Indonesia in 2005. Wayne, motivated to do something for the people of Indonesia, made some phone calls to other footwear executives for help and they raised 250,000 pairs of new shoes headed for the affected areas.
Then Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and Wayne called the same people and this time raised 1 million pairs of shoes.
Soles4Souls collects, processes and grades shoes. Shoes in new or high grade condition are earmarked for distribution in the USA or abroad. Lower grade shoes are sorted and packed for distribution in countries such as Haiti, Tanzania and Honduros. They are also sent to microenterprise participants in those countries who clean and recondition the shoes to sell locally. This program provides a rare opportunity to impoverished people who would like to start their own business.
In the last 5 years, Soles4Souls has collected and distributed 12 million pairs of shoes. Their goal is to collect 11 million pairs of shoes in 2011.
We are partnering with Allen Edmonds and its 150 US retailers in one of the larget streamlined efforts to help Soles4Souls provide shoes to 300 million children and 1.5 million adults across the world who don’t have a single pair of shoes.
Between February 21st and March 16th, Rush Wilson Limited will be collecting new and gently worn shoes for men, women and children. As a thank you, you may save $35 on a new pair of Allen Edmonds men’s shoes. No purchase is necessary to donate shoes. All collected shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls who will distribute them to people in need around the world.
